From Siamese Surprise to Brother & Sister Adventures: The Story of Sechette and Nefér

Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned and sometimes, that’s the best part! Our adventure with two very special Siamese cats started out quite simple: we just wanted to bring home a sweet little kitten. But what began with one tiny furball soon turned into a brother-and-sister duo that completely stole our hearts.

How It All Started

About thirteen years ago, we drove to a breeder (don’t ask me where exactly – I was too young to care, my mind was only shouting: “Yay, kitten time!”). The mission was clear: we wanted a female kitten.

And there she was. At least… that’s what we thought. The moment we saw this little fluff, it was love at first sight. But once home, surprise! Our “she” turned out to be a “he.” The breeder apologized and offered to let us swap him for a female. But of course, we were already smitten.

A week later we went back, and there was only one kitten left. Not the prettiest, not the most popular – nobody wanted her. Our hearts broke at the thought. And so, instead of one, we came home with two. Brother and sister.

Brother and Sister… but Not Exactly BFFs

Living under the same roof didn’t mean instant friendship. Quite the opposite: to this day, they behave like typical siblings – bickering, teasing, and occasionally acting like sworn enemies. And honestly? That’s exactly what makes them so funny and unique.

Luckily, they also grew up with our big, gentle dogs who absolutely adored them. Thanks to that, Sechette and Nefér had a childhood full of love, fun, and furry adventures.

Their Names – A Touch of Ancient Egypt at Home

Our little girl became Sechette, inspired by “Sekhmet,” the fierce Egyptian goddess of war and healing. The name couldn’t be more fitting for her bold and playful spirit.

Originally, we wanted to call the boy Nefertiti (yes, after the famous Egyptian queen). But since that didn’t really match a male cat, we shortened it to Nefér – short, sleek, and oh-so regal.
